[National Ecology Day] Sha Lo Tung Ecological Conservation Guided Tour

To commemorate National Ecology Day, the Department of Urban Planning and Design, and the Social Infrastructure for Equity and Wellbeing (SIEW) Lab at the University of Hong Kong will host a guided ecological tour of Sha Lo Tung on 24 August 2025 from 2pm to 6pm. All interested members of the public above 12 are warmly invited to join.

Located in the southeastern part of Pat Sin Leng Country Park, Sha Lo Tung is Hong Kong’s only highland freshwater wetland surrounded by mountains. Designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1997, the area supports a remarkable diversity of species—including over 80 species of dragonflies, accounting for more than 60% of Hong Kong’s total—alongside various rare and endangered insects and amphibians.

The tour will be led by the HKU SIEW Lab’s Sha Lo Tung Conservation Project Team. Participants will learn about the site’s unique wetland ecology, rich biodiversity, and Hakka cultural heritage, as well as the ongoing baseline research and conservation efforts underway. The team will also share their vision to transform Sha Lo Tung into a multifunctional, insect-themed ecological park with four key components: conservation, research, education, and recreation.

Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. We welcome your participation in exploring and supporting the conservation of this valuable ecological landscape. Each participant will receive one souvenir from SIEW Lab Sha Lo Tung group.
